The Middle Eastern developer Sorouh engaged SKB to design a new concept for its headquarters in downtown Abu Dhabi. The site was located in an older commercial neighborhood that was ripe for redevelopment, but needed a catalyst building. SKB developed two design concepts that took different approaches to the qualities of glass in architecture. The first was to explore glass as part of an integrated assembly that formed a taught skin in some places and an articulated component with depth in others. The second approach was exploring the glass as a skin with minimal articulation, different amounts of reflection and depth and large abstract forms opening up to the environment.
