Bean Kinney Korman is a multi-disciplined law firm based in and servicing Arlington, Virginia. BKK’s practice groups range from real estate and master planning to financial services to traditional family law practice. BKK is a pillar of the business community in Arlington and with its offices across the street from the Arlington government center, BKK has traditionally hosted many community and business events. In its new offices, BKK wanted its conference center to feel open and connected to the surroundings.

SKB developed a design for the 40,000 SF office where there are two anchors to the public space - a stair leading to the library at one end and a large conference room that opens out to the County Center at the other. These two anchors are built out of wood - the stair is designed as if it its carved from a solid block and the conference room walls and ceiling dramatically splay to open out to the street. The office cafe is located to be open to the reception area to encourage the sense of openness and community that is central to the firm’s identity.

BKK elected to go to a single size attorney office for all and add more collaboration spaces and utilize more efficient furniture to support the decision.
